Using AI In Ecommerce
Ecommerce sites typically have hundreds of pages at the category and sometimes thousands at the individual product level. Using AI prompts and Screaming Frog SEO crawling software can generate page content and related Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and answers to help earn more search visibility and traffic and convert site visitors into buyers.
Using AI in ecommerce can do multiple tasks for busy ecommerce managers, marketers and SEO specialists. While there are many use cases in SEO, this post will talk about using an SEO crawler tool with AI to generate content for Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and product category page descriptive text for shoppers to consider in their buyer’s journey.
Generating Ecommerce Category Page Content Using AI In Screaming Frog
Screaming Frog is a SEO web crawler tool that identifies technical and on-page website issues. In the last several months, the software has been adding AI integrations to help SEO professionals gain more insight on opportunities and performance issues at a web page level. Using the ChatGPT API in Screaming Frog, Benson SEO created two AI prompts. The first was used to generate frequently asked questions about products on a website, creating more content opportunities. The second was used to write category product page content at scale.
After setting up the crawl configuration and prompts, we selected several product category pages from an online sporting goods store to test the prompts.
Category Product Page AI Prompt Results In Screaming Frog
One category level product page features women’s apparel. The first AI prompt we programmed into Screaming Frog was:
“You are an expert copywriter. Read the H1 and then create FAQs based on these questions. Answer 2-3 sentences for each question. What can you wear with this? How do you accessorize this? Is this still in style?”
Our prompt generated these questions and answers:
“FAQs for Women’s Apparel
What can you wear with this?
When styling women’s performance and lifestyle apparel, the versatility is key. You can pair moisture-wicking tops with a classic pair of leggings or joggers for a casual athleisure look, perfect for both workouts and relaxing. For a more polished ensemble, throw on a chic jacket over your favorite sports bra and leggings for a comfortable yet put-together outfit.
How do you accessorize this?
Accessorizing women’s apparel can enhance your entire look. Consider adding a bold cap or a stylish headband to keep your hair in place while working out. Layering with a lightweight scarf or sporting a sleek gym bag can also add a touch of personality to your outfit. A pair of trendy sneakers can complete your look, providing both style and comfort.
Is this still in style?
Performance and lifestyle apparel is a staple in modern fashion and remains very much in style, catering to the increasing demand for comfortable and multi-functional clothing. Brands like Adidas, New Balance, and Badger are continually updating their collections with new materials and designs to stay abreast of fashion trends while retaining the comfort and functionality that consumers love.”
Our second prompt in Screaming Frog is “You are an expert product category page writer. Write 3 – 4 sentences for each collection page using the H1.”
The product category page content description is:
“Women’s Apparel
Explore our extensive collection of Women’s Performance & Lifestyle Apparel, designed to seamlessly blend athletic functionality with everyday style. Whether you’re training for a marathon, unwinding after a workout, or simply dressing for a cozy day, our assortment of moisture-wicking tops, supportive sports bras, and versatile leggings makes movement a breeze. Find your perfect fit from top brands like Adidas, New Balance, and Badger, ensuring quality and style with every piece. Elevate your wardrobe and feel confident in every step you take, whether it’s in the gym or out on the town.”
The web crawler and ChatGPT integration generated the FAQ and category content for a few dozen pages in just seconds. This can be scaled to be used on ecommerce sites that have hundreds of category pages, and used to generate thousands of product descriptions. So many ecommerce websites simply publish the manufacturers product descriptions, which isn’t helping your SEO at all as those duplicate descriptions don’t help your site stand out from the competition who are doing the same thing.
This is just one example of how to use AI in Ecommerce to create category product page text and find related content opportunities using FAQs.
